ECM-U011800 - Lost Communications With Fuel Additive Control Module. General Failure Information. No sub type information
System
Engine Control Module (ECM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
2 modelsS80 (2007–), V70 (2008–)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) monitors communication with the additive dosing control module (ADM) on the CAN network. The code is set when the engine control module detects that the communication is not working. Although the code is titled lost communication with the fuel additive control module, it applies to the additive dosing control module. The code is also set when that module requests that the environmental lamp is lit.
Possible causes
- CAN communication fault, which may be stored as codes in the central electronics control module (CEM)
- Codes stored in the additive dosing control module (ADM)
- No supply voltage to the additive dosing control module
What you can do
- 1Read the codes in the additive dosing control module first, then in the central electronics control module, and fix them in that order
- 2Check that the fuses for the additive dosing control module are intact and that it receives voltage
- 3Check the connectors at the additive dosing control module and in the CAN wiring for loose or oxidised contacts
- 4Look for chafed or pinched CAN wiring. Use a multimeter to check that the wiring has no break and is not shorted to ground
- 5Clear this code only after the codes in the additive dosing control module and the central electronics control module have been fixed and cleared, then road test the car
- 6If the fault returns: have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the additive dosing control module and the communication
