What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) communicates with the alternator control module (ACM) over LIN. The code is set when the communication is faulty, or when the alternator control module sends fault information to the engine control module. Although the code is titled lost communication with the starter/generator control module, it concerns communication between the engine control module and the alternator control module.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Faulty alternator control module (ACM)
- Faulty alternator
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Check the connectors at the alternator control module for contact resistance and oxidation
- 3Look for breaks, chafing or pinched areas on the signal wire between the engine control module and the alternator control module. Use a multimeter to check that the wire has no break
- 4Clear the code and road test the car. If you have a diagnostic tool, check that the code's diagnostic status shows the fault is no longer present
- 5If the fault returns: have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the alternator and its control module
Symptoms you may notice1
- The engine does not start
