What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) receives information from the brake control module (BCM) over the CAN network, and the code is set when a fault is registered in the communication between them. Although the code is titled lost communication with the brake control module, it concerns CAN traffic linking the engine control module and the brake control module. The fault can stop the cruise control from working.
Possible causes
- Fault in the brake control module (BCM)
- Break or short circuit on the CAN wires between the engine control module and the brake control module
What you can do
- 1Read the codes in the central electronics control module and other affected control modules, and fix them first. Then clear this code
- 2Check that the fuses are intact
- 3Check the CAN connections between the engine control module and the brake control module for loose or corroded contacts
- 4Look for chafed wiring in the CAN network. Use a multimeter to check that the wires have no break or short circuit
- 5Do not work on the braking system yourself. If the fault returns: have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the brake control module and the CAN network
