What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) receives brake pedal position information from the brake control module (BCM) over the CAN network. The code is set when the engine control module has no communication with the brake control module and an expected message from it is missing. The code affects the cruise control.
Possible causes
- Break in one or more CAN wires
- Short circuit between the CAN wires, or to ground or supply voltage
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the contacts
- Internal fault in the brake control module (BCM)
- Fault inside the engine control module (ECM)
- The engine control module or brake control module does not have the correct software for the car
What you can do
- 1Read the codes in the central electronics control module and other affected control modules and fix them first. Then clear this code
- 2Check that the fuses are intact
- 3Check the connectors on the CAN network for contact resistance and oxidation
- 4Look for chafed wiring. Use a multimeter to check that the CAN wires have no break or short to ground or supply voltage
- 5Clear the code, start the engine and check whether it is set again
- 6Do not work on the braking system yourself. If the fault returns: have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the brake control module and the CAN network
Symptoms you may notice3
- Cruise control does not work at all
- Text message and warning symbol in the display
- The engine does not start
What the fault can affect1
- The cruise control is switched off for as long as the fault is active
