What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) monitors communication with the central electronics control module (CEM). Although the code names an incorrect or missing sequence counter, it is set when communication with the CEM stops. The cruise control is then switched off.
Possible causes
- Break or short circuit on the CAN wires
- The communication wire is shorted to ground or supply voltage
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Short circuit in the connections
- The engine control module is not intended for this car, for example a used module with different software or hardware
- A common fault on the CAN network, if several control modules have communication faults
What you can do
- 1Read the codes in the central electronics control module and fix them before going further
- 2Check the fuses and that the central electronics control module receives voltage
- 3Check the connectors on the CAN wires for contact resistance, oxidation and loose contacts
- 4Look for chafed wiring and use a multimeter to check that the CAN wires have no break or short to ground or supply voltage
- 5If the engine control module has been replaced: check that it is intended for this exact car
- 6If the fault returns: have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the communication. Do not replace the central electronics control module unless a workshop has shown it is faulty
Symptoms you may notice1
- The cruise control does not engage
What the fault can affect1
- The cruise control does not work while the fault remains
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
