What does this fault code mean?
The closing velocity module (CVM) is part of the City Safety function, which aims to prevent or reduce damage in low-speed collisions. The CVM can request speed-reducing actions from other control modules over CAN. Although the code is titled lost communication with the cruise control front distance sensor, it concerns the signal from the CVM. The code is set when the signal requesting speed reduction drops out.
Possible causes
- Fault in the closing velocity module (CVM)
- Fault in the central electronics control module (CEM), which should be checked first
What you can do
- 1Read the codes in the central electronics control module and in the closing velocity module, and fix the root fault first. The code in the engine control module can then be cleared
- 2Check that the fuses are intact
- 3Check the CAN network connectors for oxidation and loose contacts
- 4Look for chafed CAN wires. Use a multimeter to check that they have no break or short to ground or supply voltage
- 5If it returns: have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the module and CAN network. Do not replace the central electronics module unless faulty
