What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) keeps a continuous LIN link open to the radiator temperature sensor. This communication checks that the radiator is the type intended for the car. Although the code is titled lost communication with the radiator anti-tamper device, it concerns communication with the radiator temperature sensor. The code is set when the engine control module gets no communication from the sensor.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance and oxidation in the connections
- LIN wire shorted to supply voltage
- LIN wire shorted to ground
- Break in the LIN wire
- Internal fault in another unit on the same part of the LIN network
- Faulty radiator temperature sensor
What you can do
- 1Check whether any other LIN-related code is stored and fix it first
- 2Check the plug at the radiator temperature sensor for oxidation and loose contacts
- 3Look for chafed wiring on the sensor signal wire. Use a multimeter to check it has no break or short to ground or supply voltage
- 4Check that the fuses are intact
- 5Clear the code, switch the ignition on and check whether it is set again
- 6If the fault returns: have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the radiator temperature sensor and the LIN network
Symptoms you may notice1
- The environmental warning lamp is on
