What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) compares its configuration ID with the one the central electronics control module (CEM) sends out on the CAN network. Although the code is titled invalid signal, it applies when the configuration ID does not match the CEM's.
Possible causes
- Wrong configuration ID because the module is not intended for the car, for example a used module with different software or hardware
- Break in the CAN wires between the module and the CEM
What you can do
- 1Check that the module is intended for this car, especially after replacement or if it is used
- 2Check the CAN connectors at the module and at the central electronics control module for oxidation and loose contacts
- 3Look for chafed CAN wires and use a multimeter to check that they have no break
- 4Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the configuration and reprogram the module if needed
Symptoms you may notice2
- The cruise control does not engage
- Red warning symbol and text message in the display
What the fault can affect2
- The module shuts off from the CAN network (bus-off)
- The module still responds to diagnostic commands
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
