Applies to the following models:

Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) compares its configuration ID with the ID that the airbag control module (SRS) sends out on the sensor CAN. The code is set when the IDs do not match. Although the code is titled software incompatibility with ECM/PCM, it concerns the configuration ID.
Possible causes
- Wrong configuration ID because the module is not suited to the car, for example a used module with different software or hardware
- Intermittent breaks on one or both CAN wires
What you can do
- 1Check whether the same code is stored in other control modules. If it is only in the engine control module, the configuration there may be wrong
- 2Check that the module is intended for the car, especially if it is used or has been changed without new software being loaded
- 3Check the CAN wires for chafing and loose contacts, and use a multimeter to check that they have no break or short circuit
- 4Do not work on the airbag system yourself. Have a workshop check the ECM software and reload it if needed
Symptoms you may notice2
- Red warning symbol and text message in the display
- The engine does not start
What the fault can affect2
- The module stops sending messages on the CAN network
- The module's functions stop working
