What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) sends a checksum back to the central electronics control module (CEM) every time it receives a CAN message from the CEM. The code is set when the checksums do not match. Although the code is titled software incompatibility with the vehicle security control module, it concerns the checksums exchanged between the ECM and the CEM.
Possible causes
- Disturbances on the CAN network
- Faulty software in the engine control module
What you can do
- 1Look for CAN-related codes in the central electronics control module and fix them first
- 2Check the CAN connectors for contact resistance and oxidation
- 3Look for chafed CAN wires and use a multimeter to check that they have no break or short to ground or supply voltage
- 4Have a workshop confirm that the correct software is in the engine control module and reload it if needed
- 5Clear the code after repair and road test the car to see whether it is set again
