What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) is configured using the vehicle configuration from the central electronics control module (CEM). The code is set when the ECM detects an internal fault, or when a parameter sent by the CEM is faulty. Although the code is titled invalid data received from the engine control module, it concerns the ECM's own faults and the parameters it receives.
Possible causes
- A module or function was removed or fitted without the vehicle configuration being correctly updated
- Faulty engine control module
What you can do
- 1Check whether any control module or function has recently been changed, removed or added. If so, the car's configuration may need updating by a workshop
- 2Check that the fuses are intact and that the battery has good voltage
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: read the status indicators and freeze-frame values to see whether the fault is present now and when it occurred
- 4If the fault returns: have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the engine control module and its configuration
Symptoms you may notice2
- The engine does not start
- Text message and warning symbol in the display
What the fault can affect1
- A default value is used for the faulty parameter
