What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) receives the torque request signal from the transmission control module (TCM). The code is set when the signal from the TCM is judged to be faulty. Although the code is titled an incorrect sequence counter, it concerns the faulty signal from the TCM.
Possible causes
- Fault on the CAN network
- Damaged transmission control module (TCM)
What you can do
- 1Check whether the transmission control module has its own stored codes and fix them first. The code in the engine control module may then be a follow-on fault
- 2Look for other CAN-related fault codes in the engine control module and fix them before going further
- 3Check the CAN connectors for loose or corroded contacts
- 4If the fault returns: have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the transmission control module and the CAN network
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
