What does this fault code mean?
The ECM gets the torque demand from the transmission module along with a sequence counter, which confirms that the right number of messages arrive in the right order. The code is set when the sequence counter for the torque request does not match between the two modules. Although the code is titled a checksum indication, it concerns the sequence counter.
Possible causes
- Fault on the CAN network
- Damaged transmission control module (TCM)
What you can do
- 1Check whether the transmission control module (TCM) has its own codes and fix them first
- 2Look at other CAN-related codes in the engine control module and follow them up
- 3Check the CAN connectors between the engine control module and the transmission module for contact resistance and oxidation
- 4Clear the code after repair and road test the car to see whether it returns
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
