What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) receives information from the transmission control module (TCM) over CAN. The code is set when the quality of the data received is too low to be considered reliable. Although the code is titled signal below allowable range, it concerns the quality of the data from the TCM.
Possible causes
- Break in the communication wire
- Communication wire shorted to ground
- Communication wire shorted to supply voltage
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Break in the connections or short circuit in the connections
- Fault in the transmission control module (TCM), which should be checked first
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: read the status indicators and freeze-frame values to see when the fault occurred
- 3Check the connectors in the wiring between the engine control module and the transmission control module for oxidation and loose contacts
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the communication wire has no break or short to ground or supply voltage
- 5If the fault returns: have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the transmission control module
Symptoms you may notice3
- Abnormally high fuel consumption
- The cruise control does not engage
- The cruise control does not hold the set speed and disengages
What the fault can affect1
- The cruise control cannot be activated
