What does this fault code mean?
The ECM takes in the torque demand from the gearbox controller and counts how many messages arrive from it. The code is set when the number of messages from the TCM does not match what is expected. The code points to a fault in another control module, so troubleshooting is done in the module that sends the message.
Possible causes
- Fault on the CAN network
- Damaged transmission control module (TCM)
What you can do
- 1Troubleshoot the transmission control module (TCM) first and fix its codes and faults. Then clear the code in the engine control module
- 2Check the CAN connectors between the engine control module and the transmission module for loose or corroded contacts
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the CAN wires have no break or short to ground or supply voltage
- 4If the fault returns: have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the transmission control module
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
