What does this fault code mean?
The SAS module monitors the cruise control steering wheel buttons and passes their data over CAN to the engine control module (ECM), which checks the quality of what it receives. The code is set when that quality is too low to be trusted or when expected data does not arrive. Although the code is titled invalid data from the cruise control module, it concerns the steering wheel button signals.
Possible causes
- Fault in the steering angle sensor module (SAS)
- Fault in the central electronics control module (CEM)
What you can do
- 1Read the codes in the steering angle sensor module and in the central electronics control module, and fix them first. Then clear the code
- 2Check that the fuses are intact
- 3Check the connectors at the steering wheel buttons and in the CAN network for loose or corroded contacts
- 4After the battery has been disconnected or the engine control module has been reprogrammed: press the brake pedal twice within about two seconds to activate the cruise control again
- 5Do not work on the steering system yourself. If the fault returns: have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the steering angle sensor and the central electronics control module
