What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) receives messages from the brake control module (BCM) over CAN. The code is set when the ECM detects a faulty or invalid message from the BCM. Although the code is titled invalid data from the anti-lock brake system control module, it concerns the messages from the brake control module.
Possible causes
- Fault in the brake control module (BCM), which should be checked first
- Fault on the CAN network
What you can do
- 1Read the codes in the brake control module and fix them first
- 2Check the CAN connectors between the engine control module and the brake control module for loose or corroded contacts
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the CAN wires have no break or short to ground or supply voltage
- 4Do not work on the braking system yourself. If the fault returns: have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the brake control module and the CAN network
