What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) constantly receives brake pedal status information from the brake control module (BCM). On cars with adaptive cruise control there is a cancel switch, which makes it possible to tell the driver's own brake pedal movements apart from braking by the system. The code is set when the signal from that switch shows the same value for an unreasonably long time. Although the code is titled brake pedal switch circuit, it concerns the cancel switch.
Possible causes
- Fault in the brake control module (BCM), which should be checked first
What you can do
- 1Read the codes in the brake control module and fix them first
- 2Check that the fuses are intact
- 3Check the CAN connections between the engine control module and the brake control module for loose or corroded contacts
- 4After battery disconnection or ECM reprogramming: hold the brake pedal down a while with the engine running to re-enable cruise
- 5Do not work on the braking system yourself. If it returns: have a workshop check the brake module and the cancel switch
Symptoms you may notice1
- The cruise control does not engage
What the fault can affect1
- The cruise control is switched off while the fault is active
