What does this fault code mean?
The brake control module (BCM) compares the wheel speeds and, when slip occurs, requests extra torque from the engine over CAN. The code is set when the engine control module does not receive the request it expects. Although the code is titled invalid data from the vehicle dynamics control module, it concerns the request from the brake control module.
Possible causes
- Fault in the brake control module (BCM), which should be checked first
- Break in one of the CAN network wires
- Short circuit between the CAN wires
- Internal fault in another control module on the same part of the CAN network
What you can do
- 1First read the codes in the brake control module and fix them. The code in the engine control module may then be a follow-on fault
- 2Check the CAN wiring for chafing, pinch damage and loose contacts
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the CAN wires have no break or short to each other
- 4Do not work on the braking system yourself. If the fault returns: have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the brake control module and the CAN network
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
