What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) constantly receives information from the central electronics control module (CEM) over CAN. The code is set when the ECM detects a faulty or invalid message from the CEM. Although the code is titled invalid data from the brake system control module, it concerns messages from the central electronics control module.
Possible causes
- Fault in the central electronics control module (CEM)
- Fault on the CAN network
- The hardware serial number programmed in the engine control module does not match the brake module's
- Fault in the brake control module (BCM)
What you can do
- 1Read the codes in the central electronics control module and the brake control module and fix them first
- 2Check that the engine control module and the brake control module are intended for this specific car, especially after a replacement
- 3Check the CAN connectors for loose or corroded contacts
- 4Do not work on the braking system or the immobilizer yourself. Have a workshop check the control modules and their programming

- The starter cranks but the engine will not start
