What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) has received an invalid request for extra wheel torque from the brake control module (BCM). The BCM asks for more torque when the driven wheels slip, and the ECM checks the conditions before torque is raised. Although the fault is named a circuit or component protection time-out, the code is set when the request for extra wheel torque is outside its permitted duration. The code is stored after the BCM has stored its own fault and cannot be erased until that fault is remedied.
Possible causes
- The fault is in the brake control module (BCM)
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in the brake control module (BCM) and remedy them first. The code in the engine control module cannot be erased until the BCM fault is remedied.
- 2Erase the fault codes once the BCM fault is remedied, then check on a test drive whether the code returns.
- 3Do not work on the brake system yourself. Have a workshop check the BCM if the code returns.
