What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) has received a request for extra wheel torque from the brake control module (BCM) that is unreasonable. The request is outside the permitted range in both duration and torque amplitude. The fault may lie in the BCM, in BCM software that has not been upgraded, or in the CAN communication between the two control modules. The ECM code is stored after the BCM has stored its own fault.
Possible causes
- The fault is in the brake control module (BCM)
- The software in the brake control module (BCM) has not been upgraded
- Fault in the CAN communication between the engine control module (ECM) and the brake control module (BCM)
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in the brake control module (BCM) first and remedy them. This code indicates a fault in that control module.
- 2Have a workshop check whether the BCM software has been upgraded. Software updating is a workshop task.
- 3Check that the connectors in the CAN network between the engine control module and the brake control module are secure and free from corrosion.
- 4Erase the fault codes once the BCM fault is remedied, then check on a test drive whether the code returns.
- 5Do not work on the brake system yourself. Have a workshop check the BCM if the code returns.
