What does this fault code mean?
The ECM receives the information it needs from the CEM over CAN and checks its quality. Although the fault is named after a body control module "A", the code is set when the CEM reports a lower signal quality than the ECM accepts. The cause may therefore be a fault in the CAN network, in the ECM, or in another module on the same part of the network.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in one of the CAN cables
- Short-circuit between the CAN cables
- Internal fault in the ECM
- Internal fault in another module on the same part of the CAN network
What you can do
- 1Read all fault codes in the engine control module and remedy any CAN-related codes first.
- 2Check that the fuses are intact, and look for loose or chafed wiring in the CAN network between the CEM and the ECM.
- 3Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment read the signal from the CEM and troubleshoot the CAN network, as this requires measurement.
- 4If the code returns after these checks, erase it and test drive the car to see whether it comes back.
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
