What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) continuously receives information from the forward sensing module (FSM) over CAN and checks the communication. Although the fault is named a sequence counter that is incorrect or not updated, the code is set when there is no communication with the FSM. After the ECM has been recharged or the battery has been disconnected, press the brake pedal down twice within about two seconds to activate cruise control.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the communication cable
- Communication cable short-circuited to ground
- Communication cable short-circuited to supply voltage
- Increased contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Open circuit in the connections
- Short-circuit in the connections
What you can do
- 1Read all fault codes in the engine control module. If any of ECM-U012088, ECM-U000188, ECM-U1A1400, ECM-U000108 or ECM-U000100 is stored, check it first.
- 2Read the fault codes in the forward sensing module (FSM). If it has a code of its own, that is likely the root cause and the ECM code is a follow-on fault.
- 3Check that the connectors between the ECM and the FSM are secure and clean, and look for chafed wiring.
- 4Have a workshop check the FSM if the code returns.
Symptoms you may notice1
- Cruise control cannot be engaged
What the fault can affect1
- The cruise control is turned off while the fault is active
