What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) checks the messages from the brake control module (BCM). The code is set when the ECM finds that a message from the BCM has an incorrect checksum, which means the message is faulty. Interference on the CAN network or a damaged BCM may lie behind it.
Possible causes
- Interference in the CAN network
- Damaged brake control module (BCM)
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in the engine control module. If any of ECM-U012088, ECM-U000188, ECM-U1A1400, ECM-U000108 or ECM-U000100 is stored, investigate it first.
- 2Read the fault codes in the brake control module (BCM) and remedy any faults there first.
- 3Look for loose or chafed wires and connectors in the CAN network between the BCM and the engine control module, since network interference can cause this code.
- 4Do not work on the brake system yourself. Have a workshop check the BCM if the code returns.
Symptoms you may notice1
- The check engine lamp lights up or behaves abnormally
What the fault can affect1
- The BCM's speed signal is replaced by a substitute value
