What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) checks its own configuration ID against the signal setup that the CEM broadcasts on the CAN network. The modules on the network must share the same signal configuration ID to communicate. The code is set when the module's own ID differs from the one the CEM sends out, and the fault may be because the module is not intended for this car.
Possible causes
- Incorrect configuration ID, because the module is not intended for the car, for example a used module with different software or hardware
- Open circuit in the CAN cables between the module and the central electronic module (CEM)
- Fault in the central electronic module (CEM)
What you can do
- 1Check whether the engine control module is a used module or has been replaced recently. Tell the workshop, since the module must be intended for this car.
- 2Read the fault codes in the central electronic module (CEM) and remedy any faults there first. Do not replace the CEM for a CAN fault unless troubleshooting shows an internal fault.
- 3Look for loose or chafed wires and connectors on the CAN network between the ECM and the CEM. Gently wiggle them to see whether the fault appears.
- 4If a module was replaced without new software being loaded, have a workshop download the correct software, as this requires programming.
Symptoms you may notice2
- Cruise control cannot be engaged
- Red warning symbol and message in the display
What the fault can affect1
- The control module shuts itself off (bus-off)
