What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) receives information about the vehicle configuration from the central electronic module (CEM). The code is set when that information is incorrect or missing. If the code was set only once and no faults are found after several drive cycles, it most likely came from a software update.
Possible causes
- Fault in the central electronic module (CEM)
- The code can be set during a software update
- Open circuit in the CAN network
- Communication cable short-circuited to ground
- Communication cable short-circuited to supply voltage
- Contact resistance, oxidation or poor contact in the connections
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in the central electronic module (CEM) and remedy them first. This code can be erased only once the CEM fault is remedied and erased.
- 2If the code was set once after a software update and does not return, erase it without further action.
- 3Check that the connectors to the CAN network are secure and clean, and look for loose or chafed wiring.
- 4If the code returns, have a workshop read the fault counter and troubleshoot the CAN network with diagnostic equipment.
Symptoms you may notice2
- Warning symbol and message in the display
- Cruise control cannot be engaged
