What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) continuously receives signals from the central electronic module (CEM) over CAN that cover the steering wheel controls for adaptive cruise, and checks the communication. Although the fault is named a sequence counter problem, the code is set when communication with the CEM is lost. After the ECM has been reloaded or the battery has been disconnected, press the brake pedal down twice for about two seconds to activate cruise control.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the communication cable
- Communication cable short-circuited to ground
- Communication cable short-circuited to supply voltage
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Open circuit in the connections
- Short-circuit in the connections
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in the engine control module. If any of ECM-U012088, ECM-U000188, ECM-U1A1400, ECM-U000108 or ECM-U000100 is stored, check it first.
- 2Read the fault codes in the CEM and remedy them first. Do not replace the CEM for a CAN fault unless troubleshooting shows an internal fault.
- 3Check that the connectors in the CAN network between the engine control module and the CEM are secure and clean, and look for chafed wiring.
Symptoms you may notice2
- Cruise control does not work at all
- Cruise control cannot be engaged
What the fault can affect1
- Cruise control is turned off while the fault is active
