What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) receives signals from the central electronic module (CEM) over CAN that cover the steering wheel controls for adaptive cruise, and checks the communication. The code is set when communication with the CEM is lost. Although the fault is named a checksum problem, the signal from the CEM is in fact missing.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the communication cable
- Communication cable short-circuited to ground
- Communication cable short-circuited to supply voltage
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Open circuit in the connections
- Short-circuit in the connections
What you can do
- 1The code points to a fault in the CEM. Read out its fault codes and remedy them first.
- 2Read the engine control module codes. If any of ECM-U010482, ECM-P193582, ECM-P080582 or ECM-U042600 is stored, check it first.
- 3Check that the connectors in the CAN network are secure and clean, and look for chafed wiring.
- 4Erase the fault codes once the fault is remedied, then check on a test drive whether the code returns.
Symptoms you may notice1
- Cruise control cannot be engaged
What the fault can affect1
- Cruise control is turned off while the fault is active
