What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) continuously receives the information it needs from the forward sensing module (FSM) over CAN and checks the communication. Although the fault is named a signal above the allowable range, the code is set when communication with the FSM is lost. After the ECM has been reloaded or the battery has been disconnected, press the brake pedal down twice for about two seconds to activate cruise control.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the communication cable
- Communication cable short-circuited to ground
- Communication cable short-circuited to supply voltage
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Open circuit in the connections
- Short-circuit in the connections
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in the engine control module. If any of ECM-U012088, ECM-U000188, ECM-U1A1400, ECM-U000108 or ECM-U000100 is stored, check it first.
- 2Read the fault codes in the FSM and remedy them there first. If ECM-U043382 or ECM-U210786 is stored in the engine control module, check it first.
- 3Check that the connectors between the engine control module and the FSM are secure and clean, and look for chafed wiring.
- 4If the code returns, have a workshop troubleshoot the FSM with diagnostic equipment.
Symptoms you may notice1
- Cruise control cannot be engaged
What the fault can affect1
- Cruise control is turned off while the fault is active
