What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) continuously receives the information it needs from the forward sensing module (FSM) over CAN. The code is set when communication with the FSM is lost. Although the fault is named a missing message, it is the communication with the FSM that is absent. After the ECM has been reloaded or the battery has been disconnected, press the brake pedal down twice for about two seconds to activate cruise control.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the communication cable
- Communication cable short-circuited to ground or to voltage
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Open circuit or short-circuit in the connections
- The fault is in the central electronic module (CEM)
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in the engine control module. If any of ECM-U012088, ECM-U000188, ECM-U1A1400, ECM-U000108 or ECM-U000100 is stored, check it first.
- 2Read the fault codes in the FSM and the CEM and remedy them there first. The engine control module code is then a follow-on fault.
- 3Check that the connectors in the CAN network are secure and clean, and look for loose or chafed wiring.
- 4Do not replace the CEM for a CAN fault unless a workshop has confirmed an internal fault in it.
Symptoms you may notice2
- Cruise control cannot be engaged
- Cruise control does not work at all
What the fault can affect1
- Cruise control is turned off while the fault is active
