VOLVO
EFI-0013 - Intake air temperature (IAT) sensor. Faulty signal
System
Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
2 modelsS40 (1996–2004), V40 (1996–2004)
What does this fault code mean?
The intake air temperature sensor measures the temperature of the air entering the engine. The code is set when the signal from the sensor is faulty, which may be caused by a defective sensor, a short-circuit in the signal wire, or an open circuit in the wire.
Possible causes
- Defective intake air temperature (IAT) sensor
- Signal wire short-circuited to ground or supply voltage
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Contact resistance
What you can do
- 1Check the connectors to the intake air temperature sensor and the control module for contact resistance and oxidation, and remedy them.
- 2With a diagnostic tool, read the intake air temperature with the ignition on. It should match the outside air after the car has stood.
- 3With a multimeter, check that the signal wire is not broken and not short-circuited to ground or voltage.
- 4If no fault is found, the temperature sensor needs replacing. Have a workshop do the replacement.
Symptoms you may notice1
- The malfunction indicator lamp lights up
