What does this fault code mean?
The injectors are driven by the injector driver stage, and the code is set when something in that circuit is faulty. The cause may be defective injectors, a defective relay or driver stage, a short-circuit, an open circuit or contact resistance. The engine may then not fire on every cylinder, and it may not start.
Possible causes
- Defective injectors
- Defective injector driver relay
- Defective injector driver stage
- Circuit shorted to ground or to supply voltage
- Open circuit in the circuit
- Contact resistance
What you can do
- 1Check the connectors to the injectors and the control module, looking for contact resistance and oxidation.
- 2With a diagnostic tool, run the engine at idle and switch off the injectors one at a time. Note any that leave engine speed unchanged.
- 3With a multimeter, check that the wires between the connectors and the injector driver stage are not broken.
- 4If the wiring is fine, the injector driver stage needs replacing. Have a workshop do this.
Symptoms you may notice3
- The malfunction indicator lamp lights up
- The engine does not fire on all cylinders
- The engine does not start
What the fault can affect3
- The engine runs on a rich fuel mixture
- No EGR control takes place
