What does this fault code mean?
Although the fault is named internal fault, the condition concerns the pump motor and its speed sensor. The power steering module checks the function of the pump motor when it starts, and the fault code is set if it finds a fault or if the speed sensor sends no speed information. The cause is a damaged control module.
Possible causes
- Damaged electric power steering module (EPS)
What you can do
- 1Clear the fault code and start the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check the connectors at the pump motor and its speed sensor for loose contacts and oxidation
- 3Power steering affects how easily the car can be steered, so have a workshop fix the fault soon
- 4If the fault code returns, the module is likely damaged: have a workshop replace the electric power steering module (EPS)
Symptoms you may notice3
- No or weak power steering assistance
- General warning lamp is lit
- A message appears in the display
