What does this fault code mean?
The power steering gets the wheel-turn rate from the steering wheel module (SWM) over the car's CAN network. The fault code is set when the value from the steering wheel angle sensor is wrong. It can also be stored incorrectly if the ignition is switched on with a key that does not belong to the car.
Possible causes
- Fault in the steering wheel module (SWM), which sends the steering wheel movement speed
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in the steering wheel module (SWM) first, since this code is stored in the power steering after the fault in the steering wheel module
- 2Remedy the fault in the steering wheel module according to its fault code, then clear this code
- 3If you have diagnostic equipment: follow the steering wheel movement speed in live data and check that the value changes smoothly as the wheel is turned
- 4Steering is affected by this fault, so have a workshop fix it soon if the code does not clear
Symptoms you may notice2
- Abnormally light steering at high speed
- Abnormally heavy steering at low speed
What the fault can affect1
- The power steering falls back on a fixed value for how fast the wheel is turning
