What does this fault code mean?
The power steering monitors the communication with the engine control module (ECM) and the central electronic module (CEM) on the CAN network. The fault code is set when signals from either of them are disturbed or missing. The fault therefore lies in the control module that sends the information, not in the power steering.
Possible causes
- Fault in the engine control module (ECM), which sends the information
- Fault in the central electronic module (CEM), which sends the information
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in the engine control module (ECM) and the central electronic module (CEM) and remedy them first
- 2Clear the fault code and road test to see whether it returns
Symptoms you may notice1
- Noise or an unusual sound from the steering, which may occur at unclear times or all the time
What the fault can affect1
- The power steering still works when the car is in auto-stop mode
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
