What does this fault code mean?
The control module compares its configuration with the one that the central electronic module (CEM) sends on the CAN network. The fault code is set when they do not match, or when communication with the CEM is interrupted. One possible cause is a control module meant for another car, such as a used module with different software or hardware.
Possible causes
- Wrong CAN configuration ID: a used module from another car with different software or hardware
- Open circuit in the CAN wiring between the power steering module and the central electronic module (CEM)
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in the central electronic module (CEM) and remedy them first
- 2Has the module recently been replaced without new software being downloaded? If so, that may be the cause
- 3Programming and software download is a workshop task: have a workshop download the correct software to the module that set the fault code
- 4Check that the connectors in the CAN network between the power steering and the CEM are secure and free from oxidation
- 5Power steering affects how easily the car can be steered, so have a workshop fix the fault soon
- 6If the fault code returns after these checks, have a workshop replace the faulty control module
Symptoms you may notice4
- Abnormally light steering at high speed
- Abnormally heavy steering at low speed
- General warning lamp is lit
- A message appears in the display
What the fault can affect1
- The pump motor may run at a constant speed
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
