What does this fault code mean?
Normally the power steering gets its data from the SAS module over CAN communication. The fault code is set when communication with the SAS is lost, or when the value is wrong for a longer period. The fault lies in the control module that sends the information.
Possible causes
- Fault in the control module that sends the information
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in the central electronic module (CEM) first, since several modules may have lost communication at the same time
- 2Read the fault codes in the steering wheel angle sensor module (SAS) and remedy them there
- 3Clear the fault code and road test to see whether it returns
- 4If the only communication fault code is stored in the module that set it, have a workshop download new software to that module
- 5Steering is affected by the fault, so have a workshop fix it soon if the code does not clear
Symptoms you may notice3
- Abnormally light steering at high speed
- Abnormally heavy steering at low speed
- Other steering or handling problems
What the fault can affect1
- The power steering uses a predefined value
