Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
4 modelsC30 (2007–2013), C70 (2006–2013), S40 (2004–2013), V50 (2004–2013)
What does this fault code mean?
The power steering normally receives the vehicle speed from the brake control module (BCM) over CAN communication. The fault code is set when communication with the BCM is lost, or when the value is wrong for a longer period. The power steering then uses a default value for the speed.
Possible causes
- Fault in the control module that sends the information, here the brake control module (BCM)
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in the central electronic module (CEM) first and remedy them there
- 2Read the fault codes in the brake control module (BCM) and remedy them
- 3Clear the fault code and road test to see whether it returns
- 4A fault in the BCM can affect the braking system, so have a workshop check the BCM and the brakes
Symptoms you may notice3
- Abnormally light steering at high speed
- Abnormally heavy steering at low speed
- Other steering or handling problems
What the fault can affect1
