What does this fault code mean?
The power steering module has a configuration ID that does not match the one the central electronic module (CEM) sends out on the CAN network. The fault code is set when the difference is found at the start of CAN communication. The cause can be a module not intended for this specific car, or an open circuit in the CAN wiring to the CEM.
Possible causes
- Wrong configuration ID, because the module is not intended for this car, for example a used module with different software or hardware
- Open circuit in the CAN wiring between the module and the central electronic module (CEM)
What you can do
- 1If this code is the only one stored in the module, the fault most likely lies in that module's configuration
- 2Has a used module been fitted without new software being downloaded? That may explain it, and the correct software then needs to be reloaded
- 3Have a workshop reload the software in the module using the latest software
- 4If there are other communication faults in the car, remedy them first, since open circuits in the CAN wiring show up in other fault codes
- 5Power steering is affected by the fault, so have a workshop fix it soon
- 6Clear the fault code after the repair and road test to confirm it does not return
