What does this fault code mean?
Although the fault is named battery voltage, the power steering compares its own system voltage with the one that the central electronic module (CEM) sends. The code is only relevant to act on when it has been active for a longer time in the same driving cycle and you notice a function working worse. Otherwise it can be cleared. The cause can be a supply wire that is shorted or has poor contact.
Possible causes
- The supply wire is shorted to earth
- The supply wire is shorted to voltage
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors and connections
What you can do
- 1Check that the relevant fuses are intact. Their location is in the owner's manual or on the cover of the fuse box
- 2Road test the car and check whether any function works worse, since the code only needs action then
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the supply wire to the power steering is not shorted to earth or to voltage
- 4Check the connectors in the supply for contact resistance and oxidation, and remedy as needed
- 5If there are no symptoms and the code does not return in the same driving cycle, clear it
Symptoms you may notice1
- No symptoms noticeable to the driver
