What does this fault code mean?
The power steering module monitors the power supply to it and registers that the voltage is too low. The cause can be a weak battery, poor contact or oxidation at the connections, or an open circuit or a short to earth in the supply wire. Power steering control is then affected.
Possible causes
- Battery voltage too low
- Contact resistance or oxidation at the connections
- Supply wire shorted to earth
- Open circuit in the supply wire
What you can do
- 1Check the battery and that the battery terminals are tight and free from corrosion
- 2Check that the fuses for the power steering are intact. Their location is in the owner's manual or on the cover of the fuse box
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the supply wire has no break and is not shorted to earth
- 4Check the supply connectors for contact resistance and oxidation, and remedy as needed
- 5If the fault remains after these checks, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the power supply to the power steering
- 6Power steering affects how easily the car can be steered, so have a workshop fix the fault soon
Symptoms you may notice2
- Yellow warning symbol and text message in the display
- Power steering control does not work
