What does this fault code mean?
The front display gets its information over the CAN network, and the fault code is set when communication on the network is disturbed. The disturbance can come from a short circuit or break in the CAN wiring, from another control module on the same part of the network, or from an internal fault in the display module. The front display does not work.
Possible causes
- Short circuit between the CAN wires
- Open circuit in one of the CAN wires
- Internal fault in another control module on the same part of the CAN network
- Internal fault in the front display module
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in the car and start with those for communication, since several codes can be present together
- 2Check that the connectors at the display and the multimedia module are secure and free from oxidation
- 3Have a workshop measure the resistance of the CAN network, since this requires several control modules to be disconnected
- 4Clear the fault code after the repair and road test to see whether it returns
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the CAN network and the modules on that part of the network
Symptoms you may notice1
- The front display does not work
What the fault can affect2
- The control module switches itself off, known as bus-off
- The control module stays off until the power supply is broken, and makes new attempts to communicate when it is reconnected
