Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
6 modelsC30 (2007–2013), C30 Electric (2011–2013), C70 (2006–2013), S40 (2004–2013), V50 (2004–2013), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
ICM looks up the phone module (PHM) in the CEM's register of approved units. A PHM that is missing from that register is blocked, and the car's phone function becomes limited or stops completely. The code is set once this is detected, most often following a replacement where the software was not loaded.
Possible causes
- A phone module the CEM register does not approve, for example a replacement unit
- Software not loaded when the phone module was replaced
- The software download failed or was incomplete
What you can do
- 1Clear the fault code and drive the car for a while to see whether it returns
- 2If the phone module was recently replaced, check whether a software download was made. This is a workshop task
- 3Check that the connectors to the phone module are fully seated and free from oxidation
- 4If the fault remains after the software download, the phone module may need replacing. Have a workshop assess this
Symptoms you may notice1
- No or limited phone function in the car
