ICM-6C77 - Global positioning system module (GPS) not approved. Faulty signal
System

Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
6 modelsC30 (2007–2013), C30 Electric (2011–2013), C70 (2006–2013), S40 (2004–2013), V50 (2004–2013), XC90 (2003–)
What does this fault code mean?
ICM looks up the GPS module in the CEM's register of approved units. A GPS module missing from that register is blocked, and the position shown on the map becomes wrong or disappears. The code is set when this is detected, most often after a replacement where the new unit lacked a software download.
Possible causes
- Fitting a GPS module the CEM register does not approve
- Software not downloaded when the GPS module was replaced
- The software download failed or was incomplete
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code, clear it and drive the car for a while to see whether it returns
- 2If the GPS module was recently replaced, check that software was downloaded with the change. This is done by a workshop
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, check that the GPS module responds and appears in the list of modules in the infotainment system
- 4If the fault remains after the software download, the GPS module may need replacing. Have a workshop make that assessment
Symptoms you may notice2
- The vehicle position shown on the map is wrong
- Navigation does not work
