Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The steering wheel buttons send their signals to the infotainment control module (ICM) over the LIN bus, and ICM monitors their status. The code is set when the message received does not match the expected one, for example because a checksum is wrong. Fault-finding should then start at the module that transmits the signal.
Possible causes
- The fault lies in the module that transmits the steering wheel button message
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact. Their locations are given in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 2Try the steering wheel audio and radio buttons and note which respond and which do not
- 3With a diagnostic tool, read the steering wheel button status in live data and check that the value changes when each button is pressed
- 4If other LIN fault codes are stored in the infotainment system, such as ICM-B108786 or ICM-B108788, work through those first. They point at the LIN bus rather than one specific unit
Symptoms you may notice2
- Steering wheel buttons for the radio do not work
- Steering wheel buttons for the audio do not work
