What does this fault code mean?
Communication between the infotainment control module (ICM) and the steering wheel buttons over the LIN bus stops, and the code is set when ICM can no longer communicate with the buttons. The causes are breaks, shorts or poor contact in the LIN circuit, for example the bus being shorted to earth or to supply voltage.
Possible causes
- LIN bus short-circuited to earth or supply voltage
- Open circuit in the communication cable
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the terminals and connections
- Open circuit in the connections
- Short circuit in the connections
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact. Their positions are given in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 2Use a multimeter to check that the LIN wire to the steering wheel is not shorted to earth or to positive
- 3Check that the connectors in the wire to the steering wheel and at the control module are seated firmly and free from oxidation, and look for breaks or chafing along the cable
- 4If ICM-B108786 is also stored, work through it first. With a diagnostic tool, check that ICM can read the steering wheel button status, since missing values point to broken communication
Symptoms you may notice2
- Steering wheel buttons for the radio do not work
- Steering wheel buttons for the audio do not work
