Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The infotainment control module (ICM) receives the information it needs from the brake control module (BCM) over CAN and monitors that link. The code is set when communication with the BCM stops. The causes are a break, a short to earth or supply in the communication wire, or poor contact at the terminals.
Possible causes
- Break in the communication wire
- Communication wire shorted to earth
- Communication wire shorted to supply
- Poor contact, oxidation or open connection at the terminals
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in the other modules. If several modules show lost-communication codes, work through them first, starting with the central electronic module (CEM)
- 2Check the connectors and cables in the CAN network for oxidation, loose connections and chafing
- 3Clear the fault code and test-drive the car to see whether it returns
- 4Do not work on the braking system yourself, as the fault concerns the brake control module. If the fault remains, have a workshop check the brake control module and its wiring
