Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The vehicle's control modules exchange information over the CAN network, and ICM monitors its link with the climate control module (CCM). The code is set when that communication is disturbed or missing. It points to a fault in the CAN communication rather than to one specific module.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connections
- Break or short in the CAN wiring
- A shared CAN fault when several communication codes are logged in the CEM
What you can do
- 1With a diagnostic tool, read the fault codes in the CEM. If several communication codes are logged, a shared CAN fault is likely and should be found first
- 2Check the connectors and wiring of the CAN network for oxidation, loose connections and chafing
- 3Check that the fuses are intact. Their locations are given in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 4Do not swap the CEM yourself. If the fault remains, have a workshop check the CAN network and the climate control module
Symptoms you may notice3
- The warning lamp is on or behaves abnormally
- The front collision warning cannot be switched off
- Other problems with warning lamps or chimes
