System
Infotainment Control Module (ICM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
9 modelsS60 (2011–), S80 (2007–), V40 (2013–), V40 Cross Country (2013–), V60 (2011–), V60 Cross Country (2015–), V70 (2008–), XC60 (2009–), XC70 (2008–)
What does this fault code mean?
The infotainment control module (ICM) no longer receives replies from the keyless vehicle module (KVM) over the CAN bus. The code is generic and does not say what type of fault it is, only that communication has stopped. The fault can only be detected once the control module's test has started and the conditions are met.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the communication cable
- Communication cable short-circuited to ground
- Communication cable short-circuited to supply voltage
- Contact resistance, oxidation or open circuit in the connections
What you can do
- 1Read out fault codes from the CEM (central electronic module). If it has codes for CAN communication, troubleshoot them first, since the CEM monitors the voltage on the CAN lines
- 2Check that the connectors in the communication cable are seated and free from corrosion
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the communication cable has no contact with ground or supply voltage, and twist and move the cable while measuring
- 4If a control module has recently been replaced without new software being downloaded, this may be the cause. Have a workshop check this
- 5Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment look for a control module that disturbs communication by sending incorrect messages
Symptoms you may notice1
- Locking and unlocking with the central locking does not work
